This year may have been our players’ most challenging golf day, but it also marks a record-breaking year for donations.
Coming off the back of another year impacted by Covid, the recent rain could not stop the excitement for the event nor prevent it from proceeding. Compared to previous years, this year, we had the most teams register – a total of 29 teams to play the 4-man ambros competition at the Nowra Golf Course on Friday 26th November 2021.
The week of wet weather couldn’t stop eager teams from showing up ready for action, with players greeted by a delicious breakfast sponsored by the Parrish Group, alongside hot coffee by Bumpy Road Catering.
Due to the weather, our standard program of an 18-hole competition was reduced down to 9-holes to ensure that players could adequately complete the course and allow time for the charity raffle and lunch to warm the players up.
This year, three well-deserved charities, Shoalhaven Kids in Need, SSPAN – Shoalhaven Suicide Prevention & Awareness Network, and Shoalhaven Education Fund, shared to proceeds from various fundraising activities at the event, including auctioning golf carts, hole sponsorships, beverage sales from the drinks carts, raffles tickets and a silent auction.
With the combined fundraising efforts, a total of $11,594.00 was raised. However, Geoff O’Connell from Kinghorn Motor Group; increased the total to $23,180. Each charity walked away with a record-breaking $7726.66.
This event wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless efforts by Hayley Byrne (SBC), alongside fellow committee members Ory Purhonen and David Goodman. Also, a special mention to the accommodating efforts of the Nowra Golf Course and Sonia and Sam Tooley from Business Events South Coast for providing a tasty lunch.
