Driving Change: The 12th Annual SBC & Macey Insurance Brokers Charity Golf Day delivers records once again

The Shoalhaven Business Chamber (SBC) & Macey Insurance Brokers annual charity golf day has teed off once again- this year marking an impressive 12 years of fundraising. The 2025 event delivered rain (not unusual), camaraderie, and a record number of laughs, all while raising a remarkable $26 639.32 for three deserving local charities:

    • BCR Communities
    • Can Assist – Shoalhaven Branch
    • Shoalhaven Defence Families Association

Thanks to the incredible generosity, each charity will receive a fantastic $8 789.77

A Day of Collaboration, Smiles and Generosity

The morning kicked off with a delicious egg & bacon roll proudly sponsored by Parrish Plumbing with baked goods from Husky Bakery, paired with freshly brewed coffee from Moving the Beans thanks to our coffee sponsor MacKillop Family Services.

Traditionally, cash sales on the day sit around $2 300. This year thanks to raffles, donations, prices on Geoff’s Drinks Cart, and on-course fines — that number almost doubled to $4 347.40 thanks to Geoff O’connell from Kinghorn Motor Group personally matching the cash sales.

A Happy Gilmore Moment at Hole 1 ($1050 raised)

Teams channelled their inner Adam Sandler, taking their swing while sporting the iconic Happy Gilmore jersey. The result? A steady stream of questionable technique, passionate run ups, and plenty of laughs & donations of course.

Adding to the comedy of the day, Macey’s own Director, Brendan, accidentally clipped a duck with his ball- prompting equal parts shock and finesse taking the ‘happy gilmore’ swing a little too seriously. The unforgettable mishap will no doubt earn “most memorable swing of the year.

Big congratulations to our Happy Gilmore Prize winner of the day, Michael Pearce from South Coast Custom Joinery. Taking out the longest drive while giving it his best happy swing!

Novelty Holes bring Out the Competitive Spirit

Beyond Macey’s feature hole, a number of sponsors jumped in with their own twists on standard play:

  • Hole 10- APM Employment: Photo Booth Fun ($450.60 raised)
  • Players snapped fun action shots and team selfies- capturing the lighter side of the competition
  • Hole 12- Need for Speed Challenge ($340 raised)
  • A battle of precision and velocity, golfers raced through a “fewest shots, fastest time” format. generating plenty of cheers and surprise wins.

The remaining holes were proudly sponsored by local businesses, each contributing to both the atmosphere and fundraising efforts.
