Golf can bring out the best and worst in players. However, there were smiles all-round last Friday when three local charities were the recipients of $17,500 at the 9th Annual Shoalhaven Business Chamber and Macey Insurance Brokers golf day.
The Shoalhaven business community, players, and the Nowra Golf Club have helped raise $5,833.32 for each charity; Nowra Community Food Store, Lifeline South Coast and Noah’s Inclusion Services. Over the past nine years, twenty-four other local non-profit organisations have benefited from this golf day, with the total amount raised over this period being $106,598.25.
Twenty-five teams of 4-players played an ambrose-style competition over 18 holes proved challenging yet entertaining as players made the most of the perfect 22-degree weather in Nowra.
To help make the game more challenging, we had three novelty holes to help raise funds and improve their golf score. They were:
Hole 1: Macey Insurance Brokers Mini Golf raised $1,600.00
Hole 4: Nowra Community Food Store Snack store raised $212.00
Hole 13: APM Employment Services Frisbee Hola Hoop raised $518.00
There were also other competitions to motivate players:
Longest Drive on 9th: Ryan Timbs – Medicine in Motion Health Group
Nearest to Pin on the 4th: Billy Economous – Nowra Farmers Market – 5.1m
Nearest to Pin on the 8th: Nathan Wood – Cooee Hotel Social Golf Club Team 2 -270cm
Nearest to Pin on the 12th: Michael Whiting – RMB Lawyers – 1.8mtrs
Ultimately, there had to be one overall winner. The Nowra Farmers Market team, with Jeffery Coe, Dallas Laughton, Allan Watts and Billy Economous, a score of Scratch 62 and Nett 51.5 proved to be the worthy recipients of prizes kindly donated by Silos Estate and Allianz Insurance.
Second Place went to the Cooee Hotel Social Golf Club Team with scores of Scratch 63 and Nett 52. Third Place went to the Cooee Hotel Social Golf Club Team 2 with a Scratch 65 and Nett 54.
This year we also had a Silent Auction that raised $3200.00. Geoff O’Connell from Kinghorn Motor Group took home the Collingwood Football Club 2020 Away Guernsey and certificate of Authenticity donated by CGU Insurance. Kris Peters from One Stop Homes took home an Opal Jewellery Piece Donated by Ackroyd Opals.
This day would not have been possible without the tireless effort provided by Hayley Byrne of Byrne Bay Consulting and Brendan Goddard of Macey Insurance Brokers.
