We’re in the midst of one of the most destructive fires seasons our nation has ever seen.
During this period we’ve witnessed the devastating effects of the raging bushfires and also seen the generosity
of the community come together to help those in need.
We understand that it will be an overwhelming time for victims of the bushfires. If you are requiring insurance assistance during this time there are few helpful tips that will help facilitate the claims process:
- Immediately get in touch with your Insurer or Insurance Broker
- Photograph damaged or destroyed items before removing or throwing them out
- Although not necessary, create an inventory of possessions that have been damaged

NSW government Rural Assistance Authority Disaster Recovery Grants
The Natural Disaster Recovery Relief Grant is available to eligible primary producers, small businesses, sporting clubs and not for profit organisations, following the declaration of a Natural Disaster by the NSW Government, and following the approval of the Australian Government. This assistance measure is only provided in the event of Natural Disasters that have severely affected communities, regions or sectors.
Salvation Army Disaster Appeal
The Salvation Army Disaster Appeal offers a range of services and assistance measures to help people who have been impacted by disasters including financial assistance, emotional support and referrals. They work with State and Local government to determine the best way to provide support to affected communities. Australian Red Cross Disaster Recovery and Relief
The Australian Red Cross Disaster Recovery and Relief support efforts including supporting people at evacuation centres and providing emergency assistance like cash grants to people who have lost their homes. Emergency grants are open across Australia to people whose primary place of residence has been destroyed or rendered uninhabitable as the result of bushfires from 1 July 2019 to 28 February 2020. If you’ve lost your home in a bushfire since July 2019, you can apply for an emergency grant of $5,000.
St Vincents de Paul Society Bushfire Appeal
St Vincent de Paul Society Bushfire Appeal helps provide food, clothing and money that bushfire victims may need to help pay their bills. Currently, they are offering emergency assistance for the drought and bushfires, including:
- Food and grocery vouchers
- Clothing, blankets and other essentials
- Financial assistance to pay bills
- Interest-free loans for a variety of household items
- Emotional support and a shoulder to lean on
- Referrals to an extensive network of other providers to cover crisis accommodation
Mayor’s Relief Fund
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor’s Relief Fund offers financial and non-financial support to those affected by the bushfires in the Shoalhaven region.
NAB Disaster Relief Fund
National Australia Bank Disaster Relief Fund has created the $1 million Disaster Relief Fund to give customers and employees displaced from their homes ready access to cash, as well as support in the months ahead as communities rebuild homes and businesses. NAB customers who have lost homes this bushfire season can immediately access $2,000 grants to help cover costs such as temporary accommodation, food and clothing.
