Making waves at this year’s Shoalhaven River Festival

What a weekend! Whilst the 3rd Annual Shoalhaven River Festival has come to a close, it has proven to be bigger and better than before this year by pulling in even more people from around the region and state.

We had the pleasure of judging the parade that kicked off the day’s celebrations in the CBD. Top marks for effort from everyone who participated including the Nowra East Public School and the Shoalhaven Navy Cadets for their accolades. Congratulations to the Malaylee community won the Ruth Matthews Memorial Trophy for making the biggest impact on the crowds and the judges this year.

So much local talent and business got behind the event this year and it was great to showcase our beautiful region off to visitors and locals alike. From everyone who participated or came along to the events, everyone would agree it was a roaring success.

This year Macey sponsored the Splash Down Water Event and it certainly pulled the crowds on the banks of the river. We had a lot of exciting action on the water with the professional jet skis, wakeboarding and water skiing demonstrations by the boys and girls in the Splash Down team.

If you were lucky enough to come down to the Macey Splash Zone, it was a great place to cool off in the heat although some got a little cooler than others…We had two sessions where spectators could get close to the action and watch the show from the waters’ edge. Most popular with the kids who entered the Macey Splash Zone, the jet skiers sprayed their wake into the crowds on the riverbank and got well and truly refreshed. Our event certainly made an impression this year!

In between the Splash Down events and other water activities and races, some of the crew from HMAS Albatross 808 Squadron flew in and provided an exciting demonstration of a sea rescue from the MRH 90 helicopter.

Throughout the day there was a lot of entertainment from local artists and musicians along the banks of the river pulling in the crowds for what was the best River Festival yet. As the celebrations moved into the evening, crowds were entertained by music from Rachel Tilbury, The April Maze and Liam Maihi leading up to the fantastic fireworks that finished off a brilliant day.

At Macey, we understand the importance of getting behind a community, that’s why we and other like-minded businesses have helped to make this year’s line-up better than before. This event will always be a great weekend for all of us to be proud of and we’re already looking forward to an even more successful festival in 2016.
